Institute economist proposes a permanent version of the New Jobs Tax Credit
Timothy J. Bartik calls for the federal government to implement a revised New Jobs Tax Credit. Such a credit would provide tax credits as large as $7,000 to businesses for each additional worker added to payrolls. Although some of these tax credits would go to businesses that would have expanded anyway, research suggests that such tax credits would be an effective incentive for some businesses to expand their hiring. Bartik estimates that this type of stimulus could increase U.S. payrolls by 1.3 million workers per year. Read more.
