Responsible for developing and conducting research on state and local economic development and local labor markets. Currently researching alternative policies for increasing labor demand for the urban poor.

Recent publications include

Video of a speech given by Dr. Bartik in October 1999 entitled "Jobs for the Poor: Labor Supply vs. Labor Demand Policies" is available from the Regional Research Institute at West Virginia University.

Dr. Bartik received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1982 and was Assistant Professor of Economics at Vanderbilt University prior to joining the Institute in 1989.
